Toddlers are hysterical. Mine (Q) is 3 and instead of just screeching when he’s annoyed or doesn’t like/want something, he says “no thanks.” After putting him to bed, I hear him getting his toys set up and a “no thanks” to something in there 😆

Executive wants to frame the NIH indirects cut as $4B in savings. But given that NIH returns $2.5 on every $1 investment, this would actually cost US economy a net $6 BILLION (per year!). Not to mention the human costs of wrecking education and research sectors and the communities they serve.

The lack of diversity in the scientific workforce has implications for all Americans. Studies have shown that diverse groups have more innovative ideas (something you want for curing cancer) than homogenous groups. www.forbes.com/councils/for....

But also, a diverse group will recognize when an innovation may not benefit all. For example, pulse oximeters do not work as well on pigmented skin. This was largely ignored until recently and advocacy came from those who would be impacted themselves. publichealth.jhu.edu/2024/pulse-o....
