We've been on the west coast for 16 years and our family still texts way too early in the morning. Why? Because they can't remember that the west coast is 3 hours behind the east coast.

Completed my first hike of 2026 along with my youngest child. Short but sweet 3 miles, 500’ of elevation gain. We were both carrying our new backpacking packs to test the fit. We’ll increase the weight of our packs and distance as we get ready for our first overnight trip in the spring.

Year end travel stats. No more flying until February, 2026. Not seen here: I visited four countries for the first time - Türkiye, Iceland, Nicaragua, and Thailand. I’m unlikely to be able to repeat that in 2026. However, I will visit the Philippines in Q1 2026, adding one more country to my list.

Weather in AMS is absolutely crushing the airport. My rebooked 11:00 flight is now leaving around 16:00.

Back on the bus home… sorta. My early AM flight was cancelled around the time I awoke (03:00). After spending an hour on the phone with Delta I was rebooked, but I now have an overnight layover in AMS. KRK✈️AMS🛌AMS✈️SEA I’ll miss a party in Seattle that I had intended to go to this evening. ☹️

I took a minute to update my tracking on the Travelers Century Club spreadsheet. Nicaragua will be my 28th country and 34th country + territory according to their tracking rubric. With all of my travel, I’m still only 1/3 of the way to 100 countries/territories…

I recently hired a genealogy researcher in Poland to help me learn more about my paternal grandfather's family tree. Today I received documents from the researcher that trace my family tree back to my 5x-great grandparents who lived in Poland in the early 19th century... Mind. Blown.
