I do media analysis of immigration coverage as part of my job. The BBC is far from the worst, but lack of context for reasons people come to UK, language, repetition of falsehoods, especially without genuine pushback etc, has gotten worse, and is undoubtedly feeding the anti-immigration narrative.

Over the last 24 hours Reform, with just a single policy announcement, have put fear where previously there was none into the hearts of millions of UK residents. No 10 and the Chancellor have said nothing about the ethics of this. I have no words left for them.

I’m so sick of seeing Farage and co on TV all the bloody time. They now know that if thy hold a press conference on any day ending in a ‘y’, they will be given endless coverage and broadcasting hours. All this for a party that could fit all of its MPs into a hatchback car.

So according to Farage, migration has led to many businesses paying lower wages, "with in many cases the minimum wage becoming the maximum wage", and this has resulted somehow in many businesses being forced to close. How does that work then?

Farage says the pensioners probably have British citizenship. If they don’t, “why on earth are we paying them all the pensions?” Could someone ask if Farage has EU citizenship? Because he says he will keep every penny of his EU pensions when he turns 63 in April 2027.

It's entirely possible that if Reform got a majority and went ahead with their stated aims it would be incredibly unpopular; it is also entirely possible that would not matter very much if they were operating with a solid majority and a five year term.

If centrists don't understand the bigger right picture and simply ape some of the language, then they'll lose. This is battle for civilisation stuff. And NB the centre and left will have to come together to fight back, much though both will hate having to do so.

Where Reform is headed is very much in line with the new right, that in order to save western democracy it must be destroyed. Patriotism as nihilism. Culture wars to become real ones. Very dangerous stuff.

Reform now planning to "abolish indefinite leave to remain (ILR)" & to "rescind ILR statuses that have already been granted". But they don't tell you how, of course, or the cost. Reform - taking away human rights. Once they've taken theirs, they'll come after yours.

I couldn't care less if they would quickly exempt EU settled status from this. As someone with EU settled status, I will stand by other immigrants not being lucky enough to have the EU fight for them, who deserve ILR just as much as we pre-2016 EU citizens do if they have been here for 5 years.

I think scepticism is warranted when it comes to whether Keir Starmer's team will ever fully realise that every attempt to outflank Farage on the Right will just lead to Farage escalating demands further.

The increased craziness of Reform's program is going to affect the economy now. With high poll ratings, and a significant chance of forming a government firms will avoid making long term commitments that would expose them to the chaos of Reform's policies.
