The Yorkshire House in Lancaster has been closed for 4 years. It was the first place I ordered a pint (Hobgoblin) and people miss it. Especially the juke box. It was a grotty rock pub, perhaps one of the last of its kind. This note on the door says it all, really.

This is bugging me now, people queuing in a traditional boozer for no reason, there's plenty of bar space.

Dramatically lit against the dark background, Everett Shinn's acrobat holds not only the attention of the viewer in such a way that we can almost feel the anticipation. The acrobat's fall was part of a popular vaudeville act touring American theatres in the 1920s.

In 1895, Lucien Simon and Charles Cottet formed the Bande Noir (Black Band) and painted with a richer, more sombre palette than most of their Impressionist contemporaries. Simon painted this self-portrait in 1900, the year he was made Chevalier of the Légion d'Honneur.
