BREAKING 🚨 The updated EHRC Code of Practice has now been sent to the Government. The Code is just as bad as we feared. It would mean a mandatory trans bathroom ban, and trans people's exclusion from public life. The impact would be devastating. But politicians still have time to stop this.

Whenever I end up near algorithmic video feeds I am always left with a total revulsion at them. Forthcoming statutory guidance could have a profound impact on trans people's lives. I've written to the Women and Equalities Minister to urge her to reject anything that undermines trans people's rights, inclusion, privacy or safety, and for Parliament to have proper oversight.

Labour warns their petards over heavy handed hoisting

Every time you see a Labour MP heading to the toilet, make sure to intercept them and demand documentary proof that their Supreme Court-undefined "biological sex" matches the socially constructed gender signifiers in the icon on the toilet sign, and then simply refuse to accept any proof they give

Going to get in on the right wing pundit grift by starting a petition to introduce maximum height restrictions in Victoria Secrets. Change building codes so that any shop with a bra in it (scary) has a ceiling no higher then 5'5.

Also? It's okay to feel hopeless! It's inaction that kills. There's plenty of other fuel for action: Rage, spite, revenge, defiance, doing the right thing, being part of something bigger than ourselves, the joy of showing how creepy and weird the weird creeps are who are wrecking the planet, etc etc

So true, and unfortunately still a niche view in tech policy wonkery. So many people brought up on the ideology of continuous upwards progress of humanity are totally unable to respond properly to the fact that most new tech nowadays is produced with no regard to making people's lives better.

EHRC guidance will "not leave any trans person in a position where they are required to use facilities ... with which they do not identify." Either a massive walkback of their ban, a deliberate lie, or they are just arguing that trans people always have the choice to piss themselves instead.

Any org buying that line should be excised from representing the community.

A great piece, although it's really what they've done *to* us. The scale of the betrayal of New Labour's best legacy - the Eq Act 2010 - is unfathomable. They have not only removed those protections, but by codifying GC ideology they are making equalities law a direct tool of oppression.

But when the question is whether to impose an unworkable and discriminatory ban on trans people from the spaces we've used for more than fifteen years, the EHRC have to be forced to extend their consultation from two weeks to six... Would the EHRC care to explain this hypocrisy?

Going through some old EHRC papers, I notice that when they were arguing for leaving trans people out of the (ditched) conversion therapy ban, they went to great lengths to argue that the consultation on the ban should be 12 weeks instead of the 6 given by gov. What changed for them I wonder? 🙄

Some stray observations, without knowing from this what the devilish detail will be, is that a) the bloodied and mendacious wes streeting seems to think that Tesco is in charge of Nestle's branding choices for some reason and b) the obsession with calorie counting is a very bad proxy for healthiness

If I were an MP, I think I'd be really pissed at the supreme court for completely re-writing legislation and reversing it's clear and obvious intent. Massive overreach and anti-democratic powergrab that wouldn't be accepted in any situation other than doing it to fuck over trans people.

As suspected, it seems parliament do not take their new segregation policy at all seriously, almost like they know that trans people aren't an inherent risk and that this policy is discriminatory, unlawful, and unenforceable!

I'm not celebrating the upgrading of anti-LGBT hate crime laws. Nobody asked for this, it doesn't make us safer, and the bill is an absolute horrorshow offensive to civil liberties. And now it's used to fob us off and try and placate us while they strip our rights. Not buying it.

It's also ahistorical. Plenty of senior people during the second world war objected to the RAF targeting civilian populations in eg Dresden instead of infrastructure, in a misguided attempt to 'break the german spirit'. They were sidelined by bloodthirsty ghouls dressed up as scientific advisors.

It's worth thinking about what an unbiased EHRC would do in the face of the Supreme court ruling... certainly wouldn't be trying to rush through the most extreme version of guidance that goes beyond the ruling, would take it's time working through implications/harms, and do so transparently. Alas.

EHRC have confirmed to me that they will not be publishing the responses to the consultation on their segregation plan. Just a report setting out the number and 'qualitative themes' of responses - allowing them to spin their own narrative with no transparency! Completely unacceptable.

Spent so long hearing anti-trans and centrist pundits saying 'calm down, nobody is suggesting that people have to show their birth certificates for entry somewhere' and as usual I was right to just completely ignore them because despite this being ridiculous it is now the official policy suggestion.

This is an indictment of labour's lack of care for women or trans people - but it's mostly an admission that they were lying when they said the SC ruling brought 'clarity', and that we were correct in our analysis that the ruling is messy, unenforceable and leaves everything open to legal challenge.
