My understanding though is the rule change opens up more jobs to asylum seekers but removes their right to work as care workers (and other jobs on the Immigration Salary List). Significant as this is an area with a lot of job vacancies.

Providing those seeking asylum with right to work is estimated to bring in, conservatively, £8billion in reduced government expenditure and increased tax revenues. It'd help increase job numbers (people spending more creates new jobs) and it helps those seeking asylum rebuild their lives faster. 2/

As Wyon Stansfeld says, and the Home Office knows, mimicing Denmark is unlikely to significantly impact asylum applications. Harsher policies have been shown to have little/no deterrence effect. There are compelling arguments for adopting kinder policies promoting compassion + mercy over deterrence.

A wholly predictable and entirely avoidable outcome of rushed, inadequate decision-making. Vulnerable people are left paying the price, stuck in limbo with their futures on hold. This cannot carry on.
