Earlier this year, we shared Samuel’s story. He was forced to flee his home twice for his safety. Both times, he had to leave his family behind to keep them safe.

In consultation with Professor Sara de Jong and Professor Victoria Canning, RLS have developed a survey to collect lived experiences of Afghans affected by the Ministry of Defence data breach. The findings will contribute to the Parliamentary call for evidence on the data leak.

The surge in far-right hatred and racism over the past few months has been horrifying. In the wake of the protests and acts of violence, we’re considering what the recent cabinet reshuffle means for people seeking safety.

We’ve been deeply disturbed by the government’s approach to people seeking safety. Instead of condemning racist rhetoric, they’ve legitimised it. While cruel and heartless policies are being used to score political points and pander to the far right.

On 9 September, with @humansforrights.bsky.social & @gardencourtlaw.bsky.social, we’ll be launching our joint report “I told them the truth.” The report examines how the UK govt is criminalising people seeking asylum under the ‘illegal arrival’ offence in the Nationality and Borders Act 2022.

Legal aid in Greece is under severe threat. Funding has collapsed. Every day we see the impact this has on people on the move. Our client, Diallo, fell victim to this collapse. His asylum claim had already been rejected when the lawyer who was supporting him lost his job due to a lack of funding.
