i can truly go on forever about the benefits of paid leave and one of the main reasons it is my policy of choice to research is because it really does do SO MUCH

dr. calarco points out about insurance in the next post in this thread but another reason paid leave is importantly (health-wise) is because it increases uptake of postpartum visits (v important for identifying post-birth health issues), reduces mental health distress, among many other things!

And a lot of those moms who aren't in the workforce were pushed out *because of* our lack of paid family leave, equal pay, universal childcare, and universal healthcare. So, they'd probably prefer policies more than peonies, too.
