I’ve been in game dev for 26 years and I can’t remember any other time where a specific tech was being insistently and persistently pushed on devs as a group in the public sphere. Why would it? Cui bono? Why would any given dev have an interest in other devs using tech they don’t have a stake in?

People covered this a fair bit so i'll bring in my own perspective: If who you're facing being people is a problem in your game about killing, why would your FIRST reaction to this be "we need to unperson them" and not "wow what if killing wasn't the default" for fucks sake its a cozy aesthetic man

The thing thats so insidious about using AI this way is that one of the main ways artists get hired are studios looking for art references and they find us and reach out. This is removing a major avenue to get work if they can just generate nameless derivations of our ideas.

Facts, it’s actually so easy to find ref stuff for some art but I’ll also add something else: sometimes you can trust an artist to cook with just a sentence or two when you want something without being too specific

I've seen an indie TTRPG project through to completion, worked with half a dozen artists and never once did I have to turn to AI to provide references for any of them. I was able to cobble together collages, moodboards and references myself. Not once did I have to turn to image generators.

You know this is kinda crazy because this account for more people seeing my game than the folks supposedly coming from bsky or my own shilling online, getting on that page is a big deal
