The US-Israel war on Iran has emitted 5 million tonnes of CO₂ₑ in its first 14 days. The world currently has 0.6 million tonnes of novel and permanent CO₂ removal (CDR) capacity annually.

Just for avoidance of doubt, this would be a war crime. It could arguably be multiple war crimes as it would violate multiple international laws which specifically prohibit the destruction of objects indispensable to civilian survival, which "obliterating Iran's power plants" would definitely be.

3-3 Normatively, if this plays out, experts may consider the case for an international arrest warrant against Mr Trump, as well as international sanctions against him and relevant co-conspirators. More importantly, innocent Iranians are now in more serious danger through no fault of their own.

Hard to be optimistic about anything at the moment, but there is one positive development I suppose. Donald Trump has made the strongest possible case for why countries must turn their back on fossil fuel. And they seem to be listening.
