for a VN vs an ADV (the jp menu-based point-and-click equivalents like ace attorney or famicom detective club) I would expect the latter to give the player agency to move around and explore a space in a restricted way, whereas in the former there's little agency outside of fixed route choices

Folks asking Square to follow Capcom's release schedule of RE is wild. Asking to create 17 hour horror games every few years is different than asking for a minimum 40 hour rpg every few years. Right now only Falcom has nailed that cadence. Tales doesn't even do this anymore.

For game reviews, it’s ultimately about finding folks who you think have taste that you finding valuable. Valuable doesn’t even mean agree. Sometimes a good reviewer provides a new context by which you reflect on your relationship with games.
