Fascinating new issue of Doctor Who Magazine focusing on Jodie Whittaker. Haven’t had the chance yet to read her lengthy interview but great insightful interviews with
@chrischibnall.bsky.social
and really interesting chats with writers who have worked with her on other shows and how they see DW.

Nice to read interviews with (non Who) writers and directors who have worked with Jodie Whitaker in the new DWM... I'd be really curious to see Joe Cornish's take on Who

and Jodie Whittaker’s vintage. Also, get the magazine. Not only the most insightful interview of JW I’ve seen, but also fascinating insights into the state of UK television and cracking interviews with Jack Thorne, Joe Cornish and Jesse Armstrong.

Reading the Jodie interview and was reminded of the Doctor's message during lockdown. It seems especially apt right now - especially for trans people. So I thought I'd share it again. Warning. It might make you cry. It did me.

Not read the huge interview with Jodie Whittaker yet, but I'm sat on the bus with Doctor Who Magazine - just looking at random bits - and this part just caught my eye. This interview's going to be my favourite thing the magazine's ever done isn't it.

Fantastic interview with Jodie Whittaker in DWM. Everything she said makes me like her and her Doctor even more. She loves being the Doctor. Absolutely LOVES IT. She’s so positive, full of life and energy. It’s wonderful. That, and Jodie, is why Thirteen is so special to me.

"You might suggest to your editor that he hold off our interview until he can run it as an obit. With a bit of luck, Ben, your word rate may have gone up by then." It hasn't. 😏 So I hope DWM won't mind me sharing my 2017 interview with Christopher H Bidmead – RIP. 🧵 ⬇️

Raising a glass to Christopher H Bidmead, who brought big ideas and magic moments to Doctor Who, and commissioned writers like Christopher Bailey,

and
@stephengallagher.co.uk
. A playfully cantankerous persona never quite masked a deep intelligence and a kind, generous soul.

Christopher H Bidmead : a warm, engaging and hugely intelligent man who enjoyed putting the cat among the pigeons on interviews. In real life though, he was approachable and kind: and made the nicest coffee I’ve ever had. Here is is at home in Dec 2013 when he kindly asked me round. RIP Chris x

Very sad to hear we've lost Christopher H Bidmead. Always struck me as a very genial chap who took his work seriously but not himself. Hard to over-express my admiration for Frontios, and the ideas in Logopolis and Castrovalva, where mathematics is treated as where philosophy and poetry meet.

So farewell then, Christopher. Creator of the Cloister Bell and the Zero room. The man who named the Master's shrinkie gun and explained why the TARDIS corridors keep changing. Season 18 was brilliant and I'll fight anyone who says otherwise. Christopher RIP Bidmead.

"Events cast shadows before them, but the huger shadows creep over us unseen." – Logopolis, by Christopher H Bidmead One of my favourite openings to any novel ever. RIP Chris, who died on 6 August. Lovely man. Brilliant, engaging interviewee. With a clear, audacious vision for Doctor Who.

I genuinely cannot recommend David's "Doctor Who Production Diary" highly enough. It's been invaluable for two recent deep-dive DWM pieces I've written (on Peter P and Carole Ann – coming soon!). The sheer depth of his research is remarkable. The details of Jackie Hill's trousers are worth it alone.
