🇨🇦 Girl Guide cookie season! If you’re old enough to remember when they switched from Christie to Dare and miss the old vanilla recipe: the year after the switch Christie rolled out Golden Oreos. Hmm!!!! Anyway these days I give $ to Guiding and when I get a craving I buy a box of golden Oreos.

“Mr. Ervin has explained that he meant nothing offensive and that we have simply misunderstood his intentions” It’s always “that’s not what I meant” with guys like this but never any actual clarification of what they DID mean.

I’m a little late to be coming to Baba Is You, but I picked it up recently and it is a truly excellent puzzle game that reminds me a bit of the Adventures of Lolo (I am old, yes). So far the puzzles are all well-crafted and frustrating in a really good way.

If you don’t have 2FA active on Bluesky, turn it on NOW. There’s an ongoing attack taking over accounts and spamming with links, which seems to add an “app password” for access externally. Already had one friend’s account compromised and I’m seeing others.

The preschooler likes banana muffins more than chocolate muffins so now I’m in the weird position of having to buy bananas to let them go brown on purpose? Instead of just hucking them in the freezer one or two at a time until I bake banana bread? It doesn’t feel right.

That this term for poorly-prepared tourists is German really tickles me because in the little mountain town I grew up in, it was usually German tourists who got themselves into pickles from not understanding Canadian wilderness

Baked some chocolate muffins for the preschooler’s lunches this week (for once no bananas in the freezer). “I’m going to love going to daycare this week!” she said.

FFS. If you are not personally familiar with a case then that case should not be in your documents. Full stop. If you need “help” identifying nonexistent case law in your documents then you should not be permitted to practice law. This isn’t even an AI good/AI bad thing.

Against my better judgment I bought a kabocha squash at the grocery store. I knew it wouldn’t be as good as the fruit stand squashes I got last fall but I really wanted squash. But it was so awful, I couldn’t even save it with generous butter and maple syrup.

Gentle reminder for northern hemisphere folks who are planning this year’s planting 🌱 be careful not to plant anything invasive or troublesome for your region. Flower blends are especially risky if you don’t know the full contents or it’s not from a trustworthy source. Don’t be that neighbour!

it also feels comparable to “women are emotional creatures, men are logical (anger is not an emotion)”; there are plenty of female-coded activities that involve math and spatial reasoning but aren’t recognized as such

Tumbler Ridge is a small planned resource community, a winding 90 minute drive from the nearest city of at least 10,000 people. A massive number of people are going to descend there tomorrow. May those that arrive have respect and grace for the unimaginable grief.

I’m struggling with how many are going with “back up your stuff” as the main takeaway. We all know this already! We all will continue to make bad backup choices! What’s significant here is this guy’s attitude toward the negligent destruction of priceless data. This is what “breaking eggs” means.

“It’s privileged to not use AI to generate imagery” It was certainly just ragebait but it sounded a lot like “you should make art for me for free because not everyone can afford to pay you” It’s the same entitlement to the labour of artists without any recognition that it IS labour.

I am so tired of the “but he’s autistic” argument being used to demand that women accept bad behaviour from men. A person can be autistic AND a disgusting predator, and the former does not cause (or mitigate the blameworthiness of) the latter.
