This new Tedium article is a great exploration of how we get back into forgotten hobbies as we get older… but down at the bottom there’s also a fake trailer for a live-action Steamed Hams movie and a link to an article about Hootie and REM’s Mike Mills starting a band together.

Same thing with Fortnite. Companies are taking the money they would’ve put towards a cheap Xbox or Nintendo DS tie-in game (or, in the last decade, a mobile game) to commission a Fortnite collab instead, where that might be the first time a lot of kids have even heard of those franchises.

The only consistent thing associated with AAA games is that they never had a consistent identity. Not in the late 90s when it started trickling out to the public and not in the early 90s when it was only used solely by executives by and marketers.

There are four major GOTY awards, each with mostly unique voting bodies. Which one do you target with your GOTY bait? Is that even possible to do with a dev cycle of 3+ years? Then look at past winners. Hades is not Elden Ring and neither are BG3. There is no one style of game that wins GOTY.

I know this is a joke, but there’s probably some truth to it. I think Rockstar saw all the money flowing towards the Switch 2 that they got worried there wouldn’t be enough extra to go towards GTA6 this year. They also realized that other games like Silksong were coming and so they blinked.
