On Facebook, I see a lot of baseball group posts. No surprise. But the sudden flood of AI generated images on pages and groups that used to be quality is a head scratcher. I just don't get it. Doesn't it take more time an effort to generate an AI image?

I'll probably investigate, but I'd wager Sanchez owns the franchise record overall. Besides Time Keefe and Charlie Ferguson, the club didn't really have good pitchers in the 19th century.

Longest streak since 1893, when the pitcher's spot was moved. There was no mound in 1893. Thus, no mound could be moved.

I recommend pre-ordering this book. No doubt the research is meticulous and the story intoxicating. August can't come soon enough!

Some fun news, was able to finally locate Jack Remsen, one of the more high profile missing players, who had a big league career that spanned from 1872 to 1884 and was a regular with Hartford in the inaugural season of the National League back in 1876. I'll break down how I found him in a thread.

Victory isn't always as big as base hits or catching fly balls. Victory can be an improved at-bat despite a strikeout or picking up a grounder and throwing towards first base. He won't make the majors. Hell, he doesn't even care to play. But he tries, and it makes me proud.

Have to admit, I did not think I would have this much fun writing about Brandon Marsh, but .. he is pretty fun, and surprisingly good.

Let's read some 19th c baseball pics. "Athletic Sports in America" was published in 1889 by Hubbard Brothers in Philadelphia. The firm was established by Alfred Hubbard and Frank Judd in 1868 and acted as a subscription publishing house and a Bible publisher. Their main office was in Philadelphia.

This Saturday, our friends from Long Island will pay us a visit. We will play one game of 1876 rules base ball followed by a game of 1864 rules. It will be 150 years to the day when the Mutuals and Athletics played each other in 1876.

Philadelphia Town Ball - 1838 NY gets a lot of attention for its role in the growth of baseball, and rightly so. Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Hoboken were the epicenter of the baseball universe in the 1840s and 1850s. Clubs organized so members could exercise. Something similar happens in Philly. 1/

Lake Otsego in Cooperstown is the headwaters for the Susquehanna River. The river also flows near my hometown of Bloomsburg, Pa in east central Pa. If I threw a baseball into the river here, I wonder how long it would take to make its way to Bloomsburg?
