My impressions of Crossfire: loved it. It was a solo learning game but the strengths really showed like the fast pace. No static firefights, lots of movement forcing players to juggle priorities. See balagan.info for house rules (tanks in particular). I think ive found my go-to WW2 rules...

Final assault as 1 and 3 platoon secure a foothold in the village and just the defenders. 2 platoon in reserve in walled orchard.

No1 platoon successfully suppresses the defenders and succeeds in capturing the walled orchard and then pushes into the village with support of a Sherman Vc.

The British have stormed up the left flank and neutralise the Pak40. They then move into the church but come under fire. On the right flank the british attack starts to bog.

The game continues. 1st platoon rushes up the flank, captures the walled orchard. The Shermans, having pushed out the German platoon in the field, run into the Panther with disastrous results. However, the 6 pounder is quickly deployed and manages to knock out the Panther.

The opening moves of my try out of Crossfire in 12mm (1:144). Smoke deployed and the tanks advance down the southern road.

Solo try out of Crossfire rules. The plan: British to push down the right flank with tanks going in first to flush out German defenders (positions circled in blue). Liberal use of smoke to screen the advance to contact. Brits need to be wary of Pak40 on left (yellow) and Panther on right (green).

No club tonight so popped over to fellow member's house for a game of Undaunted Normandy. What a clever little game. I found a lot of the reviews told me HOW the mechanics worked but not WHY so I found it difficult to get my head round it until I actually played it. Really good game.

Pillage at the local club tonight, played two games with my Irish. Both against Viking warbands. The first had a few bowmen that really hurt and the second had a lot of berserkers which I did my best to avoid!! Managed two wins though so I’m happy with that!

Made a 4x4' fleece mat for 6mm. An evening with a big brush and tubes of craft paint. Fleece was dark brown so took a couple of coats. A bit rough and ready.

Thursday night is Battletech night for me. A bunch of us get together at Board Bard Games in Montavilla and throw down some 31st century warfare at a 1/235th scale. Its a nice escape to play the first game I fell in Love with over 30 years ago now. Every week. Tonight, Was a special batch of fun.

Vandee commission finished today

I played in a big 15mm Waterloo "garage" wargame on Saturday. Black Powder rules and a mix of 15mm miniatures from Essex to Minifigs. All painted up by a fellow Falkirk Wargames club member. This was my first all day wargame session since the 1990's and I loved it. More planned for the summer.

I've been sneaking out to the shed to build a 12mm scale layout intended for a game of Crossfire. Generic, partly shelled French village and approaches. Tonnes of flock, pva and 3d prints mostly from www.thingiverse.com/kj7574/designs

Lots of French infantry columns attacking a British held ridge in this evening's BP2 club game in 6mm. A very close affair but the British, broke the second French division on the final turn.

I’ve also started the first model in my Mordheim warband. Still a lot of work to do but it’s been fun trying to paint in a grittier style.

Not a work of art but I'm proud. First model in 35 years. First Armor model ever. Smallest scale I've ever done-1/48. Vallejo Color thinned with isopropyl alcohol. Wrong color, barrel not parallel to centerline, every bit has been a learning exercise. Still learning. #histscalemodels #scalemodel
