61 years ago, state troopers attacked unarmed, peaceful protestors in Selma with clubs & tear gas. Images & videos of Bloody Sunday shocked the nation & eventually led to the passage of the VRA – which SCOTUS just destroyed Our fight is not over. Today we march again for equality & justice

This is a mother's day for organizing. Today I'm busy getting out the word about the march on Montgomery, Alabama next Saturday while also supporting local organizing against confederate special sessions happening to gut black political power across the South. Mothers let's make it happen.

Black voter participation soared right after the VRA passed in 1965. But not until 1992, after Congress strengthened the VRA to require majority-minority districts, did we start getting closer to proportional Black representation in Congress. Because Black votes finally counted more in the South.

Sadly, this is about the next election. He’s laying the groundwork to declare his election “emergency” to change rules and argue to courts they can’t question his national security judgment in war time. And if the Court does, he’s preparing to say that’s beyond their constitutional powers.

1. The FBI affidavit used to seize ballots and other materials from the 2020 election in Fulton County relies on debunked conspiracy theories. For example, it isn’t true that Fulton first “reported” 511,343 ballots and then “reported” 527,925. I’ll explain.

Just amazing that this affidavit got a federal magistrate judge to approve an unprecedented federal seizure of ballots in Fulton County. The time to prep for similar shenanigans from the feds in 2026---before ballots are fully tabulated and any recounts/contests done---is now.

Some thoughts on the FBI’s raid of the Fulton County, GA election offices, seizing reams of sensitive voting records from 2020. We don’t yet know the justification, but there’s ample reason to be skeptical. There’s also ample reason to be alarmed; this escalation is dangerous. /1

Yes, the GOP controls Congress. That's why it's key to show Congress COULD stop the madness. And it's not just the DHS bill. Congress could repeal the prior multi-year $75b for DHS; set up a special investigative committee (cf. Watergate); amend the Insurrection Act; etc.
