I'm teaching a Transgender Studies course this semester and the students' final project is to make a zine 🤩

Can we also have journals in the style of zines? I'd love to send off an article for peer review with a list of the records I was listening to while I wrote it attached as part of the references, then get back recommendations of what to listen to next with the reviewer comments.

We're witnessing the most aggressive, fanatical crackdown on free speech in my lifetime. The speed and breadth of government censorship and private sector and nonprofit capitulation has been astonishing. As has the lack of urgency/silence from people who've long claimed to care about this stuff.

Just kinda struck me how little the popular discourse around genAI and copyright doesn't talk about GAN training and image generation. I definitely get news stories about it whenever one spits out a copyright infringing image but most people are just not talking about it in my sphere.

Who in NYC will organize a public library propaganda fair where people who appreciate libraries can distribute/trade/cheaply sell posters, stickers, buttons, zines, art, etc??? This would be so much fun. Someone make this happen, lol.

I've been putting out excess donations on a cart in the library lobby and students have been taking them by the box load, bringing back their friends, browsing for a long time. People want books, they have a fascination with them. Not always a good one, maybe a little consumptive, but its there.
