Drought is not correct for Canadian English, thanks to the vowel shift. "out" is a better example than "cow", because it works whether you use the shift or not.

a fun thing about cooking a lot is that you reach a point of "oh if someone picks up ingredient X then i can make entire meal Y" in this case, the only thing we don't always have on hand is celery & garlic shoots, so if one of us is at the grocery, they get both and boom that's a meal sorted

What's so viscerally upsetting about this is that making up words and attributing them to real writers, alive or not, is essentially making and selling deepfakes of the writers. It's incredibly violating.

In Sweden, there are several local dishes called "stroganoff" that do not in any way resemble the stroganoff of my previous acquaintance. This one, Halloumi Stroganoff (the halloumi part is accurate) is essentially a red lentil stew. Hearty! Delicious! But...not technically stroganoff. We love it.

Why agentic AI creeps out women: because it's written by bros for bros who want Stepford Wives, and conveys that vibe: commercial AIs are fine-tuned to perform as cheerfully submissive handmaids, not working partners:

What if sloppy joes, but with a different flavour profile? Spiced lamb, eggplant, chick peas, pine nuts, richly flavored with cumin, cinnamon, turmeric and smoked paprika, in a toasted bun with a herbed yoghurt. I would do it again, too. ๐ฝ๏ธ ๐ Modified from:

Iโm going to say something radical: you deserve to be happy. You deserve to be happy, not contingent on accomplishments or output. And any system that makes it actively harder for you to be happy is a bad system.

Maybe raw kale salad isn't the first thing most people think of for a Valentine's dinner, but this cacio e pepe cavolo nero turns out to be an absolute banger. The duck confit and duck fat fries didn't hurt, either, of course. ๐ ๐ฝ๏ธ

Took a crack at an espresso walnut cake for a birthday. Espresso gรฉnoise sponge, buttered toasted walnut and espresso icing filling and topping. I don't make a lot of cakes, so my decorating skills are pretty minimalist. Tasted good though!

It's an interesing thing, quote-posting with my own progress. Anyway today the trees became a bit more tree-like and the chanterelles more chanterelle-like. If you are lucky when you paint it's sort of like a mist slowly clearing & objects before you becoming more real, almost of their own volition

Local coffee shop chain has taken a stab at butter tarts. They are not good. In addition to this particular one seeming weeks old, the suspiciously thick pastry is flavourless. The meager filling - well, they attempted to sidestep the raisins-or-no issue by adding chopped pecans. Fail. ๐
