Hearing a podcaster rant about how it's a dangerous path to start down charging money for everything. Yea, they meant software subscriptions, but I'm like wanting to shake them & scream "don't you see this is the weird exception and every other aspect of your life is like that?" THAT'S THE PROBLEM.

Folks, blocking is essential self-care. Social media by design favours conflict. It is important to curate that to which you expose your mind. I can guarantee you that if you block me, for instance, you won't be missing anything. Number of followers/following is a ridiculous status symbol. -1/2

if you live in maryland please be aware: ICE has access to md's drivers licensing system. they are using our licenses to find matches in their facial recognition systems and pulling our addresses. please share, it's urgent

I wrote up a longer piece about scammers pretending to be me, how you can tell it's not me, and why neither I nor any other "big name" author is likely to be emailing you at all, and certainly not with obviously "AI"-generated verbiage. Please feel free to share.

Reminder: Scammers Are Out There Pretending to Be Me (and Other Authors as Well)
Three times in the last week I’ve gotten inquiries from authors, about email from an account purporting to be me. This account praised their book in a very “AI” fashion and tried …

If you were considering trying Raindrop for annotating ebooks, don't. It doesn't allow annotating on Android and their ad copy about free accounts implies that your data will be deleted but doesn't specify how long data is retained for. Suspicious behavior and weird documentation. Just meh.

basically all the really smart and funny people on social media are people who understand that every social media platform is a dumbass pyramid scheme that will eventually turn to shit when the owners realize it makes no money, and are thus willing to migrate, and the money people don't like this

It's really worth noting that "farmer" means "land baron" in the US. Not the employees who work the land. Not small, independent operations. Fuck these people! They're the bourgeois who wear Carhartt for interviews.

Sometimes I wonder why I bother to report bugs when the most common response is to ignore them. To be fair, I don't report most bugs. I just.. at least try when it comes from something I haven't been burned on yet.

I just learned that countries put age limits on immigration. What an utterly insane idea, deciding that you can't move because you're old. It's amazing how much inhumane behavior is just accepted normal.

Pew Research Institute (2023): • Red State Texas has about 2.1 million undocumented immigrants • Red State Florida has 1.6 M undocumented immigrants • Blue State Minnesota has 130,000. And yet only Minnesota is being occupied by masked thugs over "immigration." It's *not* about immigration.

As of a couple days ago, I've read 24.52% of my ebooks. I've been speed-running some shorter stuff again. xD But I'm trying to focus a bit more on non-fiction recently. I'm semi-succeeding. Also just weird fiction? Idk. Hard to say. I guess it's not focused.

this is the sort of thing that actually develops into revolutionary potential; local associations replacing the functions of government, resources and labor power being turned to common goals, people being radicalized enough to see why this is necessary.

I'm confused because all I've seen in terms of reactions from Venezuelan citizens is puff pieces and AI generated fake images being used to fake a positive reaction from Venezuelan citizens. As I try to find reliable sources, I'm only seeing positive reactions-

I started reading a conspiracy theory book for entertainment. What I didn't expect was how fascinating it would be to talk about how it's designed to trick you. I've written 2,000 words on it so far, and I plan to keep reading and writing till I have a finished book of my own on this topic.

This is exactly the kind of thing that is why I keep saying that as a country, no one needs to pay for healthcare. We can afford it as a society, without any need to stress or harm individuals. It's just cruelty for the sake of cruelty that we don't.

Because I hate how much removing headphone jacks has negatively impacted my life, I decided to find & collect all the notes I have about it. I've written 4,668 words (not counting this message) about how many things have been broken, and how much time & money has been wasted. And that's just ME.

Just so people outside of MN know - a lot of the US citizens getting “arrested” by ICE never get processed at Whipple. They are roughed up during the arrest and then often dropped off miles from where they were picked up. It means we don’t know the true scale of what ICE is doing based on ICE stats

Horrifying to realize that the reason that no blue state governor has activated that National Guard or local police force against the feds is literally, like - if you try to do that and the national guard or police doesn't listen to you or turns against you, you're not really governor any more

The most insidious kind of censorship is censorship that doesn't look or feel like censorship. For example on an iPhone, if you misspell a word, you can tap on it to correct it, unless that word is supremacist or any of another large list of "sensitive" topics.

Telling protesters who are having grenades launched at their faces that they're "taking the bait" is fundamentally not very different than telling someone like me that I shouldn't "provoke" violent randos if I don't want to be gay-bashed or raped, and I think liberals should think on that.

Every once in a while I'm reminded of the most shocking truth I learned about racism in this country. It isn't primarily lingering sentiment from slavery, and there was successful integration of cultures. A white supremacist movement rebuilt racism and tore down peaceful communities to restart it.

It really is telling who refuses to learn and change when you explain why a source is unreliable, their response is "well you're choosing to ignore the biggest player" like that means something (oh now I get it, it's an appeal to authority), (1/2)

I wrote most of this this before I got on mood stabilizers and it somehow makes more sense to me now that I'm on them. It's about how trans artists slip in and out of our lives, conspiracies, drug psychosis, repression, and trying to not become toxic in the face of impending doom.

I keep thinking about how the lack of access to medicine is artificially enforced to make a handful of people more money. Did you know that there's a LIMIT on training medical staff? On top of all the obvious ways of extracting money, they ensure there are fewer people with expertise than needed.

I know my country is getting much worse much faster than it ever has before for one simple reason: I cannot avoid learning about it. I'm trying very hard to avoid anything about current atrocities because it's extremely hazardous to my mental health, but I literally cannot avoid it anymore.

Worth pointing out that this is the kind of behavior that's considered too inhumane for war, but doing it to the people you're supposed to be defending is considered just fine actually.

Dude just blasting his own name all over everything while trying to say he's fighting for democracy. What a joke. You wouldn't make EVERY STATEMENT ABOUT YOU if you actually cared. Like, sometimes narcissism is something I struggle to recognize, but sometimes it's so obvious.

ABC is reporting that someone who was not injured in public has internal bleeding. Either this is part of a lie to pretend the murder of Renee Good was justified, or it's another layer of incompetence because a thug who was already injured was sent to attack people instead of being kept at home.

I'm against most efforts to block AI from stealing data, not because I want them to steal the data, but because they will get a copy of it one way or another, so you're mostly wasting human effort, while also actively making it harder for humans to find the data too.

I think from time to time about the ethics of watching a YouTube video created by an awful person. Because you're giving them attention that is rewarded. But I just remembered YouTube no longer counts views from people using ad-blocker, so maybe that's not as much of an issue anymore?
