Hard to think of a more deeply damaging start to Burnham’s premiership than giving green light to new oil & gas in N. Sea, if true. It won’t lower bills or lead to greater energy security but will drive an even hotter planet. What a terrible signal to give to rest of the world #ClimateVandalism

I totally agree, but feel this is much deeper than an Andy Burnham problem. This goes right back to the first 1972 UN Environment Conference where governments promised action on the them emerging ecological crisis, and then failed to take any of the action promised. 1/6

I can see that people are struggling to accept what I say about ideology being unhelpful, because they have been inculcated, brainwashed, since they were a child to believe that ideologies are necessary, because they enable powerful/rich cliques to rule over us, by their control of these ideologies.

This is a profound misunderstanding. The basis of social justice and its principles are reciprocal behaviour, behaving towards others, as you would want them to behave towards you. They are not derived from ideology. Human societies understood this, hundreds of thousands of years ago. 1/3

It is my belief, that in a very devious way, governments have been making climate action, deliberately unpopular, with policy that puts taxes and tariffs on ordinary people, to pay for climate action. This makes no sense, and just makes climate action unpopular. 1/🧵

This is not an attack on science or scientists, whose only failure has been to believe in the honesty, integrity and rationality of the governments they report to. It is just a plea, for science and scientists, to face up to how their good faith is being abused.
