A sample of my painting process for the last piece of Ergo Cosmos (x4 speed up)

There is something moving and almost surprising in putting side by side our hands and what we created with them! Trusted friends, blessed instruments and companions of the artist, you bridge our beautiful animal nature with the burning fire of the Spirits.

Work on the second character, still a lot of polish required! I am posting this closeup to make a point: to breath life into the painting you should paint ugly, i.e. chaotically, the brush should not be controlled but twist as if possessed by a demon.

Progress on this piece, I hope the glaze effect isn't too annoying! Anyway, in 6 days the first illustrated book of Ergo Cosmos will be finally released, and I am in equal parts terrified and happy :D

Working on the character, this is how I use reference!

I’ve just finished polishing the two brushes I rely on most. Since many of you asked, I’m releasing both on ArtStation. I keep my toolkit lean, with as few brushes as possible for clarity. I will drop the link and some examples of the paintings created with them.

Hit me with your weapons, my fellow blade-loving artists (but whatever weapon works just as fine)! On the left, two daggers from Fragments of the Past: a Kokhlidoi and an Agrauran Dagger. On the right, various war instruments a voyager might find on the Holy Moon of Ergo Cosmos.

Impress me with your princesses! On the left, the mad, jealous Mistress of the West Agrauran, on the right, a noble woman of an Etoi Thiasos dancing with her Erotios, lover and part of her elected court.

In quiet adoration, the Believers chant: "Thus, the remedy is twinned, as ever—Hand to steady, Heart to soften—lest the river rise again in the mind."

Another two examples, Enotria on the left, Fragments of the Past on the right, they were both painted at roughly the same time, at the inception of their respective projects. Sweet memories of "my God, I don't know how to paint, how am I supposed to finish this now?"

Memories of my first released worldbuilding :)

I have written something on the role of mourning in the inception of Ergo Cosmos. It might interest some of you, those, for example, who have perceived the melancholy and the quest for joy hidden in the first chapter of the book. I will put a link in the comment (it's free)

The Grand Duke of Mercury was once a ritual title, granted only to one who had survived the Trial of the Dual Horizons, emerging with both hearts intact.

I have lost a lot in the last few days, and even drawing gives me no solace. It feels like a heavy and cold practice, without joy or surprise. And yet I feel as if my book, and my characters, are trying to help me find a voice again, as if they were asking me to continue.
