This is definitely something worthy of quantitative analysis and experiments. It is very hard to know otherwise how much of the error was due to the lack of weather balloons. Forecast failures happen, and tropical cyclones moving into the extratropics are a common source of these.

Sea ice extent increasing as you'd expect N of Russia/Alaska/Canada ... but just look at the N European sector..some parts actually seeing a decrease in recent weeks ..

The anti-climate bots have made it to Bluesky. Overnight I received dozens of replies, quotes, and mentions from bot-looking accounts that are seemingly intent on spreading climate doom. All these posts were encouraging me and my audience to give up. Please block these accounts if you see them.

The @metoffice.gov.uk use weather station observations to reconstruct changes in UK average temperature since 1884. @copernicusecmwf.bsky.social produce the ERA5 reanalysis which reconstructs global weather every hour back to 1950 using a weather forecast model. Their estimates agree. Just sayin'.
