Finally watching “The Pitt.” It’s an amazing show for a lot of reasons, but I specifically want to shout out its accurate, no-nonsense depiction of the doctors treating a type 1 diabetic for hypoglycemia. It’s so rare that TV and movies get even the basic facts right, let alone the minutiae.

If you've talked to me in the past few weeks, you know I can't shut up about "The Lowdown," Sterlin Harjo's new noir comedy set in Tulsa, OK. A killer cast led by a great Ethan Hawke in a show that combines compelling mystery with Harjo's deep affection for his hometown. My review for @avclub.com:

When I was younger and journalism was less broken, I used to find a sense of purpose in my work, because it *meant* something to me. I don’t know the last time I felt that.

Ta-Nehasi Coates is doing a lot of things with this essay, but one of the most important is fearlessly using examples of anti-trans hate to describe Charlie Kirk's politics. The contrast between his choices and those of other writers for major legacy outlets is revealing.

Not to despair on main, but everything has been such an uphill climb lately: managing my diabetes, working up the energy to apply for jobs, begging my insurance company to cover my meds, trying to make ends meet without racking up more credit card debt. Reading up on sitcom families for a piece I'm writing, and I was astounded to discover "The Goldbergs." Not only the first of its kind, but about a Jewish family in the Bronx AND written by a woman. Eating up this essay by @emilynussbaum.bsky.social about this lost part of TV history.
