Split Fiction, Clair Obscur, The Blue Prince and now Silksong. This year sure has been great for well liked non-AAA games that, on paper, sound like they were almost specifically made for me. And yet, I keep finding them dull and unsatisfying to play.

The longer I play Silksong, the more apparent it gets that the game was made with next to no financial pressure. And in this case I don't say that as a compliment.

Silksong has been pretty okay so far, but I really wish they didn't emphasize combat quite so much. I like how technical things can occationally get with some of the enemies, but c'mon game, let me also just explore!

IMO there's a real reluctance among some to even engage w/the possibility that the limitations of earlier hardware generations might have contributed something valuable to our experiences with some games on them. Some simply must see technically more advanced graphics as an inherent, objective good.

Funnily enough with the addition of Mythologies and Special Forces I'm now really looking forward to this. Games with questionable reputation are also worth experiencing.

I don't think we're ready for the gamer civil war that is going to break out between Clair Obscur heads and Silksong evangelists.
