I’ve been up for hours, summoning serenity, but truth is my adrenaline levels are spiked. I’m stressing about buying house (it’s still not bloody sorted) & I have a week to write a research proposal, & now my son is back in hospital & I had to act courteous to my arch enemy, & now I must WORK??

In rubbish news, I’ve been to the hospital twice today & my lad is once again requiring treatment for his unbelievably wrecked, ravaged & patched up body. Have left his Pa doing a shift & escaped home for a lovely dinner of a bowl of cheerios.

I don’t know how to express my delight without sounding noncey, but I employed a lovely young man on our street to tidy up my front garden & he’s made a wonderful job of it. *preens*

Pulled up some poppy seed heads today, they were so tall, and came out with a jerk, spraying seeds everywhere. I’m in bed & finding dozens on my scalp. Maybe they’ll germinate there & I’ll just bloom poppies.

I am saddened to tell you a little painted lady butterfly has flown into my car & fluttered into the irretrievable gap twist windscreen & dash. I wish I could coax it out. Do you know butterfly? I don’t. It is probably cooking in there as we speak.

I really am a bit overwhelmed recently. Irritated by onboarding. Text messages asking me to do something when it’s convenient, which in honesty, makes me think, ‘never’. On the other hand, I’m being more respectful of myself than ever & feeling a boundary I didn’t know existed before.

I went swimming at 6:15 followed by a sauna, cycled home stopping to eat ripe blackberries, made pancakes with greek yogurt, nectarines & honey, have a pot of coffee in the garden, & not a kid in sight. If the whole day could continue in this vein, I’ll be so content by bedtime. So content.

Dreamed the leisure centre’s new management & staff didn’t believe my name was real & I pulled the believe it or I’ll speak to your manager line. Really dull dreams for asserting my identity in prosaic place.

Have created a gant chart to pretend I know what am doing for the first 4 weeks of my MA research. Sadly “playing the sims” won’t cut it.

Someone called me: the message left when I didn’t answer was that they called to onboard me. I do not care to endure an onboarding, I wish to be welcomed, greeted, settled in with seltzer water in a pensione, before a rakish guide joins me for a late dinner with wine, to explain the process.

I have been intermittent fasting most days of the week (skipping meals for reasonable periods & then eating sensibly) because there’s no diet like not thinking about food unless you absolutely have to. It really works for me, I genuinely feel a lot healthier as a result. Now watch me drop dead.

My daughter is poorly with tonsillitis for the 3rd time this year. Snot girl summer. She had a tonsillectomy when she was a kid.

Today I shall be Holly Hobby & proud. Dressing for pleasure rather than for social approval is just the most wonderful feeling. It comes partly as a recovery from a lifetime of being conditioned to want male approval. @grovedigger.bsky.social approves of me in a ballgown or a binbag. Liberating.

People really do age at different rates huh? Bumped into a woman I’ve known 25 years since she was mid 20s & could easily have placed her in her late 60s. Was shocked really. She’s very healthy too. I think it was her hairstyle in some ways.
