I like that they don't actually mention the bands for the readers, but urge critical thinking instead of just accepting rhetoric. Wardruna seems like a great fit for this kind of thing! This is a fascinating article because it describes heavy metal from an outsider perspective, in a compassionate and understanding way. And it introduces Steve Von Till as a fourth grade teacher in Idaho. Indigenous folk have always been a huge, awesome part of the metalhead community.

What a great article. I was saying last night that Metal has always been pretty inclusive, it's a truly outsider genre. Just ignore that frat rock period that nearly destroyed it. It's always been a home for the disaffected, & accepting of people's differences.

Kudos to the @seattletimes.com for spelling with diacritical marks used in the Hawaiian language, the ʻokina and the kahakō. A few years ago, when I asked the NY Times to spell my affiliation as University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, they refused because it went against their style guide.
