Something I find fascinating is how some people have started using the word 'instruction' rather than 'education'. I think its probably linked to the idea that learning = memory and that this is being 'delivered' to learners, rather than learning being a relational, interactive experience.

Perspective taking involves examining our own lenses that shape our perception especially when cultural stories have often come from dominant cultures, which likely serve privilege and power. Questioning our need to KNOW is a part of this process. Being a learner (curious, don’t know mind) is key

Whilst it can be tempting to want simple answers about how to be culturally competent in our work… this work is about responsivity - having the courage to stay in a ‘not knowing’ position, which is a consistent inquiry, asking questions with curiosity both inwardly & with our clients and consultees

Our "parts" are often desperate to communicate w/ us-- but they've been convinced we won't take them seriously or treat them kindly, because we've been conditioned to hate & fear them. We need to prove to our "parts" they can trust us to listen & not overreact to what they hold.

Our protector parts show up as ‘managers’ or ‘firefighters.’ Cece Sykes calls firefighters ‘distractors’ instead. I like this. It feels more accurate to me. These parts try to distract us from the ‘fire’ or the vulnerable feelings.
