I think I'm going to start doing little reviews of books as I finish them. First up is Tear Down Heaven, the 5th & final book in the Tear Down Heaven series by @rachel-aaron.bsky.social. What a great finale, balancing action, drama, and humor as usual! This was definitely a 5/5 series.

My writing sin is constructing sentences that, while not technically run-ons, are absolutely longer than any sane person would want to read. This is why editing must be done humbly, because first drafts are always like:

SOOOOO much formatting in this new book, though T__T I just know something's gonna break. (Not Bex 5, that's all normal. I mean the *next* new book!)

The best ebook formatting is simple formatting. Looks neat, doesn't break, doesn't require embedding fonts, and it keeps the file size down. Sure, it's a little boring, but it works everywhere and doesn't necessitate hiring a formatter. In case you were wondering why all my ebooks look like that :P

Hot take of the morning: If you want to learn to be a better writer, don't read good books. Read BAD books! In excellent writing, craft is invisible. The book simply feels meant to be. In god-awful writing, though, the mistakes are writ large, making them much easier to spot and learn from.

I originally thought the title was only there to cash in on the dark loner hero trend, but "Sentenced to be a Hero" is 1000% accurate and perfect for the show. We're going to be seeing hour-long YouTube thinkpieces about the use of theme in this series for *years.*

PSA: I know "Sentenced to be a Hero" sounds like cash-in isekai trash, but it is not. Y'ALL IT IS SO GOOD. Sweet spot between Fantasy & Dark Fantasy, banger of an original premise, fantastic characters. 10/10, no notes. Wish I'd thought of this story. #professionaljealousy youtu.be/B5qZX2kh-7w?...

Joking aside, restarts are real. They happen, they're necessary, and avoiding them will only make your book suck harder. The real difference between being an artist and being a hack isn't what you write, it's how hard you're willing work to actually make it good. #amwriting

Hot take: I'm seeing so many stories of people using AI for writing and being "blown away" by what it produces. I don't think they're "blown away" by the quality. I think they're "blown away" at seeing their own ideas rendered in readable prose for the first time. (thread)
