I love pickles and I love sweet stuff, but I am not here for the dill-pickles-in-sweet-things trend. In the past month, I've seen a cocktail that mixes simple syrup with dill pickle juice *and* a dill pickle cake with buttercream dill frosting. What are we doing, America? Is this a cry for help?

I can only write in total silence. I would question whether I'm weird or you're weird - but we both write so we're both weird.

I can't write in silence, so I listen to music or white noise. Because of this, some books develop a very specific sound mood. It can get so linked in my head that I literally can't write without the right soundscape. In other news, that's how I've listened to this YouTube playlist over 1000 times.

Also! I had an idea for a new DFZ book about a Docwagon, which is basically the emergency ambulance service in ShadowRun. Think combat medical extraction team, but the nurse is a mage, the ambulance driver's a cyborg, dispatch is a dragon, etc. Sound like a fun read?

The more I write, the more convinced I become that 99% of writing is just "okay, pretend you're X character, here's the scenario, annnnnnnd PROBLEM SOLVE!" #amwriting

I have officially doubled the wordcount of the original ending in the rewrite. 😳 To be fair, I added a lot in my edit/replan, but I didn't think I added THAT much. We've got a whole extra chapter now! Book is quite the chonky chonk now.

Writing hot take: If you are not a detailed-oriented person, and you decide to start writing books... you will become a detailed-oriented person.

Currently rewriting the entire ending to this book because my editor didn't like it. I didn't really like it either, so it's definitely the right choice, but man. Rewriting the last 25% of a 220k word book is so loooooooong. On the final 2 chapters now, but I am so ready to move on.

Favorite new hack of the summer: cramming the mint that's taken over my garden into the bottom of a pitcher and adding a packet of lemonade mix to make mint lemonade. Cheap, tastes like summer, and is a great way to use up copious amounts of mint if you're being overwhelmed.

This book, and in fact the whole series, was so much fun. I love rereading them all. If you haven’t read them, this is a great time to pick up the first book.

This series is so great! Lovely MCs to root for and they always choose to do the right thing, for all people. Highly recommend!

TIL the literal translation of Frieren's Japanese title 葬送のフリーレン/Sousou no Frieren is "Frieren of the Funeral" or "Frieren the Undertaker." It's a play on the fact that "sousou" can mean both attending a funeral or sending someone else to their grave and damn if that isn't perfect.

In other news, finished the first draft of Mana Runners book 2. More good people in dark situations. Or at least Tavin/Mim/Rok are good. Zavrak is still an evil lich and proud of it.

I put a Spanish phrase into my book and now Word is convinced I'm writing en Espanol. It's put red squiggles under all my English words. ALL 176,445 THEM. I fixed it by resetting my language preferences, but it was absolutely ridiculous for a while there. Nearly crashed my laptop. #amwriting
