Every citizen in every democracy needs to understand habeus corpus and that their entire freedom depends on it. If it is removed, democracy is removed.

What the heck? If Starmer doesn’t turn towards Europe and away from all this, it will lose many of its voters.

He explicitly told #Bukele that his next victims will be "home-grown." That is: American citizens. He's not trying to hide it. He could have made the #KilmarAbregoGarcia case go away just by asking Bukele to release him (would have preserved his claims to legality). He CHOSE to cross that redline.

There’s no alternative to applying the law other than an end to the rule of law which underpins our democracies. So if a decision in France or USA strengthens the far right because voters don’t care about law, then we will get the governments we deserve. Judges won’t be to blame, voters will be.
