I’ve been neglecting this account and need to do better - who will I be seeing at Nova Open 2025? Photo tax is the cross stitch project I’m working on to get me in the zone to work on my Capital Palette entry.

Finally found where the 2nd iteration of Jes Goodwin Terminators comes from, Vifam 銀河漂流バイファム wear-puppet power armor that gives a hunch backed appearance as the pilot's arms are in the chest area. Mecha design by Kunio Ookawara and Mamoru Nagano of Gundam fame. Headed by Yoshiyuki Tomino.

Finally started working on my Nova Open Capital Palette stuff! I might have posted about this mini a while ago but I found it at a secondhand shop in Akiba and it's just such a badass sculpt - white metal and resin from the early 00s. Still a long way to go but feel good about the shape of things.

Painted a miniature for Roles for Initiative! @nerdy.tokyo started an initiative where we paint and raffle miniatures based on each session. Meet Cheesecake Magoo!

Last week I wrapped up two more minis for Roles For Initiative improv D&D show at Tokyo Comedy Bar. To the left is tiefling cleric Tesla Cybertruck, & to the right is... an actual Cybertruck that served as a setpiece for May's event.

Back blades / crests are a very cool look for Warhammer 40k's Dark Eldar Incubi and Age of Sigmar's Askurgan. They're drawing from a martial arts fantasy theme, Buddhist statues often have carved mandorlas that way. There's also records of samurai armor having such bladed, antlered back crests

Warhammer Store & Cafe Tokyo just announced new rules for the play tables and paint stations. A bit annoying but fair; honestly the fact that they're adding a reservation form is a win. #warhammer40k #warhammerjapan

An absolute thrill to meet Borja Calvo Bertrán De Lis and see his Slayer Sword-winning piece at #Warhammer Cafe Tokyo. He was incredibly generous and spent an hour talking shop with a few of us. Super inspiring and really left me eager to test myself at Golden Demon next year.

Tabletop.events completely shat the bed and Nova gave up after 90 minutes and told everyone to come back another day, which means we're going to have a round 2. Womp womp.

After weeks and weeks of delays and procrastination I oil dipped my 40 clan rats and they look pretty good! Leaving them out for a few more hours and then I’ll bring them in for cleanups, highlights and basing.

Watching @roguehobbies.bsky.social's video on the Golden Demon revisions has me really thinking about switching from Nova Open to Adepticon for 2026. Turning GD into an open competition makes it feel so much more accessible to me as a too-much-theory-not-enough-crafting painter.

Messed around with this tonight in an hour-long painting session with my wife, who was working on her own first mini (other than the WH store demo). Think I'm starting to get the hang of OSL reflections and did some fun things w/ cape, but the rest needs a bit of detailing. #minipainting

Grimdark-in-a-bottle tests continue… first two used a mahogany oil stain, third is a homemade wash. 1: dip was way too long, oil stain basically melted the acrylic paint 2: shorter dip, better result 3: decent result but wash not strong enough to impact white base coat #warhammer #minipainting
