Today, the All-Party Parliamentary Group @appgfairelections.bsky.social held its Annual General Meeting. The APPG now brings together 158 MPs and peers, making it the largest in Parliament! With the Elections Bill coming soon, 2026 will be a crucial year for the campaign for fair votes.

The data is clear: FPTP is the worst voting system for women's representation. The Inter-Parliamentary Union finds year after year that PR is associated with more gender-equal parliaments. Think of all the talented women that our system shuts out of politics, and the difference they could make.

We deserve better than governments that 2/3 of the public voted against, or MPs that 3/4 of their constituents didn't choose. We deserve better than to be ignored over and over again, because of where we live or who we support. We all deserve better than First Past the Post.

Under First Past the Post, an extreme, even anti-democratic party can take full power on a fraction of the vote - without the consent of the majority. In these troubled times, we shouldn't take our rights and freedoms for granted. That's another reason why we need Proportional Representation.
