🌼It's official: Plaid Cymru have the reins of the Senedd, but can't form a majority without the help of other progressives. These results show Wales has a progressive majority in its bones. Now it's time to seize this mandate and deliver change for the Welsh people.

🗳️A crystal clear sign that two-party politics has collapsed: in Norfolk County Council, Tories and Labour went from holding three quarters of seats to holding just 10%. With such a fragmented electorate, it's no longer about who comes first - it's about who can work together.

Add Wandsworth to the list of progressive tragedies. Progressives cast 60% of the vote, yet Tories are 1 councillor short of a majority of seats. First Past The Post is warping democratic mandates all over the country. The voting system has to change.

Labour losses and a fragmented vote across places like Southampton mean no overall control in more and more councils. Progressive cooperation is now increasingly becoming a necessity, where leaders will need to prioritise community needs over partisan divides.

In this ward & many others, progressives held a combined majority, but the seat went to Reform on less than 30%. Voters will now be represented by a party that stands against everything they voted for. That's a progressive tragedy, created by our chaotic voting system.

This race in Plymouth is yet another example of how First Past The Post creates progressive tragedies in a fragmented system. Progressives got 57.8% of the vote, but their vote split & Reform came through the middle. This is what a broken voting system costs us. @electionmaps.uk

In Peterborough, no seats were won with a majority with some winning margins below 30%. First Past the Post has reached breaking point. All it offers now is instability unfairness, and random results. It will do the same in 2029 if no action is taken.

Seeing Stockport Lib Dem's fend off Reform is a real moment for hope. There is a progressive majority in this country and it needs to be mobilised.

In Bolton, Labour will now need Lib Dems, Greens & Independents to govern. Progressives hold a majority - but will need to work together to use it. The tide is turning away from majority control, toward cooperative, negotiated, pluralist politics putting voters first.

People want change. That has been very clear for some time. The story of this morning so far has been Labour's losses, Green surges and Reform wins. The fragmentation of the progressive bloc will continue to cost us and won't change until we - and the voting system - change.
