This is one of Joseph Lister's original bandages soaked in carbolic acid solution. Carbolic acid, also called phenol, was at this time extracted from coal tar. The acid therefore had a similar smell to road tar on a hot day.

So I guess it was 20(!) years ago that I saw the Arctic Monkeys at The Barrowlands Ballroom in Glasgow - what a venue!! Absolutely tremendous!! Loved seeing bands there.

Ahh, the fun of physical symptoms of bipolar - I’m having an of all over body pain day, all my muscles and joints ache and feel like they are on fire. 😞

Telling the kids how we used to get chastised in school for using any Scots language or ‘incorrect’ pronunciation. God forbid you answered with ‘aye’ or didn’t pronounce the t in water! Aye, the glottal stop is linguistic variation not ‘being lazy’!

Whilst getting the kids the new Tomodachi Life game was £££, it has been perfect for keeping them entertained during our slow, jet lagged reentry. Plus, we only have one Nintendo switch so they are showing some awesome patience and kindness with their sharing!

Random: it’s really important to make things, and be ok with doing it badly. I was looking at some photos I took yesterday that I think are a step forward in quality. But also some deeply flawed and messy attempts to pour resin. Both are good? It’s a cliche, but you really gotta mess stuff up.

Long haul travel/jet lag has been a big trigger for my bipolar in the past so I’ve scheduled in a very gentle week with lots of self care and creative activities. So far, it is going okay. ☺️

In further Chicago things, the U-boat at MSI absolutely blew my mind! The whole exhibition was fascinating and actually going inside the U-boat was incredible.I’ve been on a WWII history and movie kick, and recently watched and loved Das Boot, so it was amazing to see and feel the history like this!

Started working on a new poem today, wrote a very rough draft and some notes. I love that moment when a new idea just pops into my head and I must scribble fast with my pen to get it all down before any wisps of it float away!

Can confirm, getting married then being separated by thousands of miles from your husband absolutely sucks. I’m very fragile and emotional today. But now begins the visa paperwork.

Being disabled is extra work. Constantly advocating for yourself and family members is hard and exhausting. Really did not need another round of it today. Ugh.
