I think good game music tends to come down to - unique game art style (forces composer to come up with unique music solutions. Abstracted art (8bit etc) does the trick more often imo) - unique game (same reason as above) - long-term composer-game studio relations (i.e. trust)

Angeline Era is our first game to really demand that you conserve HP and generally beat the whole level in one go. There's a nice buildip of action skill, stage knowledge, and loadout strats that make it fun and interesting to replay the rooms and hone your run

we should stop designing runbacks and start designing funbacks...

It seems runbacks are being discussed again... I think it is really a game by game basis but generally the more the runback is mechanically tied to the thing at the end, the better. It also helps to be funny (Capra demon/Mario sunshine game overs). Otherwise it reduces to hardship metaphors hehe

Thinking about runbacks makes me wonder about a runback mode with HP in Sephonie instead of frequent checkpoints. Or even the ocean. That idea is kinda cool actually...platformer dungeons...too bad I'd have to make another 3d platformer (hard!) to try it. I think the game Big Catch is doing it.

thinking about Silksong boss runbacks. I feel like they don't quite make as much sense as in games where the runbacks are borrowed from, because it's easy to start boss fights with maximum HP resources. So the levels/runbacks become untethered from the boss fights, making the levels feel like filler

Thinking of skipping sending (most) metacritic press review codes for Angeline Era. We do get some well thought out reviews but also a good portion of metacritic ones are trash 50-70/100 reviews which just stay on our metacritic forever. What's the point? Don't want to do this again anymore
