What a wonderful episode - I've laughed and learned! I've also been saving up hearing Don't Stand Me Down for the first time until I heard
@giddypoppod.bsky.social
on the subject, and now I can't bloody wait! But in the interests of dressing appropriately while I do it, I'm off to buy a nice suit.

A Don't Stand Me Down bonanza. Guests on the latest Giddy Carousel of Pop include Dexys royalty in Helen O'Hara and a rare spottiing of Kev Adams on a podcast. Q. Has there ever been an album so dismissed simply on the basis of the clothes the band are wearing? A. No

LISTEN TO THIS. The chaps from The Giddy Carousel Of Pop (the Smash Hits-based podcast) have done a 40th anniversary special episode on Don't Stand Me Down, featuring actual Dexys members Helen O'Hara and Kevin 'Billy' Adams, Smash Hits legend Chris Heath, and little old me (a mere fan at the time).

Brill night with two PSB films at the BFI Southbank - Battleship Potemkin restoration is just superb and their score a propulsive, elegiac and dramatic accomplishment. It Couldn't Happen Here as charmingly odd as ever and somehow timeless. Nice chat with Neil too

This electro pop tune from 1983 has been making some internet noise lately for being a possible influence on West End Girls. There are definitely some similarities but it's not enough to send the PSB to pop jail. Maybe a few hours community service at the most.

The request was IIRC 'Dear Jim'll, Please can I drive around in that little electric car Gary Numan has in his video?' Then, apparently, the kid was in a strop cos they told them to put on some dungarees, his sister's dungarees.

Finally, one of the weirdest music TV clips - as discussed in our episode with

- has resurfaced. Gary Numan on Jim'll Fix doing Music For Chameleons while a haunted child circled him slowly in an electric car with torches for headlights.
