Quite how this dorsal vertebra from #IsleofWight iguanodontian dinosaur Brighstoneus got like this is hard to say. Almost certainly trauma caused a fracture which perhaps was splinted unnaturally by attached tendons so that it healed in this peculiar circular fashion. #FossilFriday

EEVEE tests 🦖

We're excited about a new undergrad research project analysing 19 year old data from elephants in Thailand. We'd measured 3D ground reaction forces (16 forceplates!) and 3D motion capture of 16 markers around each fore/hind foot. We're using this to test ideas about how foot (pad) stiffness works.

For #FossilFriday meet Fletcheriana triassica - this is a ~245 million year old extinct relative of the cicadas. This fossil is ~8 cm long, and its body was covered with bristles in life. It probably fed on fluids from plants as living cicadas do. ⚒️🧪🦀🦑 #evosky
