I too have often wished it had been possible to meet the rioters on January 6 with massed bayonets rather than scattered riot shields. But I also look askance at insurrection commentary that references Nixon, or Reconstruction, or other past battles that don’t implicate our own generation.

What is perhaps the gravest transgression ever committed by a US president has been airbrushed out of the picture and the perp allowed (by a majority of voters) to return to the scene of the crime. This is one of the most worrisome turns in American history.

Before even beginning to think about any possibility of any Constitutional amendments, a whole of predicate institutional changes would have to be set in place.
