I like the way conservative corporate media, as the BBC for example, phrases things. "As the US president pushes a crackdown on left-wing groups and openly targets political foes, critics ask where he's taking America." Isn't a "crackdown" usually about criminals? And it's just "critics" talking?

Speaking of the baleful effects of religion, did you see the story about a disgruntled 40 year old man driving his vehicle into a Mormon church during Sunday service, opening fire with an assault-style rifle killing 1 and injuring 9 before being shot dead by police?

I wonder why rural and small town conservatives, Republicans support political violence and terrorism, waging lawless "war" against democracy, the US Constitution, liberals, as much as they do. Do they suppose they're immune to the effects of civil discord? It will only affect others? City folk?

I like the way the establishment elite feels a need to present the problems that plague our society, and indeed the world, as "intractable." What they mean is, intractable if their relative economic and political power, and the systems they used to generate and then to wield it, is preserved.

Reportedly, many Americans perceive something "broken" about US politics, but conservatives, Republicans just mean others dare disagree their values, morals, views on economics, while others mean conservatives, Republicans are actively undermining democracy, the US Constitution, the rule of law.

It seems clear American conservatives, right wingers, Republicans want, and believe they have, a monopoly on bad behavior, intimidation, violence, terrorism, and their support for those things over the rule of law is predicated on them having that monopoly, not just their egoism, hubris, power lust.

What I don't understand is people who aren't interested at all in democracy, don't see the point of it, but then swoon onto a divan when there's a political murder or act of terrorism. Do they get without democracy, that's what "politics" becomes? Power, violence, intimidation, murder, terrorism?
