Plenty of people in Scottish Labour know that this policy and Sarwar's transphobic campaign is disgraceful. Here's my advice: get rid of him and his cronies. Take your party back. Anyone prepared to slander a minority like this is unfit to lead.

The Scottish Prison Service has an effective policy on trans prisoners based on expertise and experience. Folk concerned about women prisoners' safety should look at the stats. Trans people are not, and never have been, the problem. This is reactionary and should have no place in Labour's manifesto.

Jackie Baillie, Mel Ward, Claire Baker, Joani Reid and Anas Sarwar all publicly backed Sandie Peggie in her employment tribunal case. Yesterday that tribunal ruled that Peggie unlawfully harassed Beth Upton. Scottish Labour must now apologise to Dr Upton for this catastrophic failure of judgement.

A Labour government passed the Equality Act. A Labour government was in power when the Supreme Court interpreted it to not mean what ministers at the time were clear it was intended to mean. The Labour government response should have been to legislate to fix it. Not doing so was a cowardly betrayal.

Bridget Phillipson says she's running for UK Labour Deputy Leader. She has grossly let down trans people and the wider LGBT community in her role as Equalities Minister. Her appointment of Mary-Ann Stephenson as chair of the EHRC was an act of human rights vandalism. LGBT members cannot support her.

Quite a punchy statement here in response to widespread outrage over LGBT orgs' participation in an event at 10 Downing Street celebrating 50 years of Pride. I have some sympathy with the argument that you have to be in the room to change minds, but that glosses over the reality of this PR exercise.

We know that the law is not always on the right side of history. The Supreme Court ruling last month does not make public spaces safer for anyone.

UK drops six more places on the ILGA-Europe #RainbowMap to now lie at 22nd, an outlier in Western Europe. The only country to fall further is Orbán's Hungary. Ten years ago the UK was first on this list. Only six years ago it was third. "A co-ordinated global backlash aimed at erasing LGBTI rights."

A number of political party LGBT+ organisations have been expressing regret at the exclusion of party political groups from Pride events this year. SLAB takes a different view. It is for Pride organisers to decide who is welcome. If Labour wants to march with Pride again it must change its heart.

The chair of the ECHR, the statutory body with responsibility to encourage equality and diversity, eliminate unlawful discrimination, and protect and promote human rights, went on Radio 4 this morning and advocated this, except the third door is for trans people and doesn't actually exist.

The idea that a "women's rights group" would find common cause with, would organise events alongside, vocal opponents of abortion rights like the Scottish Family Party would have been laughed at in 2016. It's a reality today, created by an anti-trans moral panic that has subsumed rational thought.

In 2016 there was no For Women Scotland or Sex Matters or LGB Alliance. The word "feminism" actually meant "feminism", and had never yet been used as code for transphobia. Engender, Zero Tolerance, Rape Crisis were all forging new work, not fighting a rearguard action against bigotry. Imagine.

Nine years ago today an LGBTI hustings event took place in the run-up to the 2016 Scottish election. Every main party leader attended, and all agreed on straightforward equality issues that needed to be pursued by the parliament. Have a read of this. It's like something from a parallel universe.

In 2000, Scottish Labour MSPs faced down homophobia in the press, led by @dailyrecord.co.uk, to push through the repeal of Section 28 against public opinion. In 2025, Labour MSP @joanireid.com writes explicit transphobia in @dailyrecord.co.uk to appease public opinion. Shame on Scottish Labour.

A heartfelt and belated thank you to the wonderful folk on the @engenderscot.bsky.social stall at #ScotLab25 at the weekend, for offering a calm, welcoming and safe space and for demonstrating the power of intersectional feminism in the face of transphobia.

Still struck by the fact that while Labour Women's Declaration Scotland both had a highly visible stall and held a fringe meeting at Scottish Labour conference, no LGBT group did either. It costs thousands of pounds to do what LWDS did; it seems likely that LGBT groups just don't have that money.

One of the many positives about Scottish Labour conference was the opportunity to stand up for trans people. We have more work to do, in our party and in our communities, to protect and progress LGBT rights. #ScotLab25 @dhothersall.bsky.social @slabcampaign.bsky.social

Good morning. It's day two of #ScotLab25 and Labour Women's Declaration Scotland has its fringe event first thing. It likely won't be a happy affair after they lost yesterday's SEC-backed motion endorsing Cass and trying to get the anti-trans dog whistle "sex-based rights" into party policy.

Delighted to collaborate with @eisunion.bsky.social on their “Stories of Section 28/2A” event, where we previewed a new teaching resource and heard members’ stories. It was, as always, an honour to be in the presence of some of the tenacious campaigners who fought to repeal Section 28 in Scotland.

Brilliant news from this morning's session that Motion 3 was defeated, that's a defeat of the Scottish Labour leaderships attempt to put into policy the U-turn they made on trans rights this week. And it's all thanks to the youth vote, well done everyone who stood up and was counted! #ScotLab25
