The thought of Ebs going fills us with sadness. He’s been an incredible ambassador for Palace, a magical player to watch and a consummate professional who did all he could for us. The scorer of our winning goal in the FA Cup. What an honour to have seen him in red and blue.

Palace’s appeal to CAS has been received, as confirmed by CAS. Interestingly, the appeal lists Lyon and Forest as parties. We shall see what happens. CAS have indicated that they’ll have an outcome by the 11th of August at the latest.

The morning after the day before, and it’s difficult not to feel dejected and disappointed in @UEFAcom and their processes. Anyone digging even a little beneath the surface will see that Palace aren’t and have never been part of the kind of MCO that Red Bull or Man City operate.

The thing about this UEFA wait is…surely while they were awaiting the Lyon outcome, they came up with an interim opinion so that they could then work quickly from that point on? They surely haven’t just waited until the outcome to actually get to work?

If today’s Lyon case outcome means that UEFA have a decision to make, there’s no need to panic. There are steps to be taken. If UEFA decide to exclude Palace from the Europa League, there are still avenues for that to be challenged. Hold your nerve.

Lots of ‘if Lyon stay up, then we’re out’ stuff being posted on here. That isn’t the conclusion to draw. UEFA’s aim is to find the path of least resistance and fewest appeals - and waiting for Lyon’s case to be concluded is the easiest step to take.

Why does that matter? Well it means that it’s not possible to, say, ‘just issue a fine’ for not being compliant. That’s like saying that one should get 3 penalty points for failing a driving test. It’s not a breach and sanction scenario. It’s a threshold for admission in the first place.

A pedant lawyer point: the UEFA MCO rules are a licensing regime, that set out eligibility criteria for admission to competitions. They are not conduct type rules that can be ‘breached’. If you don’t fulfil the criteria you’re not in.
