I started out writing romance because my background in fanfic prepared me for it. But all of my romances contained a murder, and I realized I was writing in the wrong genre. As I like to say now, "My heart has no room for you. But the trunk of my car does." #pretendpanel #cozymystery

I’ve been writing since I was 11, so, uh… A lot has changed. 😅 I’m now *intentionally* funny, my characters have way more depth & nuance, settings exist rather than being left entirely up to the reader’s imagination, and the vibes are overall more intense BUT I prefer happy endings. #PretendPanel

I'm less frightened of being judged for my subject material & also I don't let my lack of talent in an area prevent me from exploring it. Like if I've never written a genre before or a poetic style. I'll do it anyway, instead of waiting for when I've "improved". #pretendpanel

Summer break I always read. I can't remember what inspired me to do it, but one day, I wrote a story. I shared with my Mom and she told me I should continue. Since then, I've written original and fanfics from TV and movies.

I consider the beginning of my writing career journey to be when I first attended a writing conference back in 2010. It signified the first time I considered myself an author, even though it would be another ten years before I became a published writer.

Beyond writing/editing itself in general, I want to improve on emotional impact. I have the charisma of a wet towel, so I want to convey myself better through the chars/story in my writing. I need those important moments to really hit and reach the reader. #pretendpanel

Happy #pretendpanel! I really struggle with remembering not everyone thinks the same way I do, so stage directions/character choices that seem obvious to me while writing can be confusing to a not-me reader. That might be best caught in editing, but I want to be more mindful about it in general.
