This presents an interesting problem to me: genre expectations limiting perception. Fantasy is a term with specific connotations and expectations reinforced through decades of reactions to a few works. IMO we should be far more accomodating of the potential breadth of what fantasy means and can be.

Man it still bugs me how Dark Souls 3, the contractual obligation Elden Ring pre-alpha, managed to make you feel more like an actual hero than Elden Ring. In ER, you're there to become king of da world, but only two characters refer to you as Elden Lord. You're a Champion or Lord to everyone in DS3.
