I say this often but it bears repeating: if you make your money from creating art then you NEED to find an art or craft where you just do it for fun and don't try to be perfect or make any money from it, and when anyone tells you to monetise it you say 'No', because otherwise your soul will die.

If you know ai is stealing content and putting good people out of jobs to produce slop instead and you’re still using it, you’re part of the problem. If you know ai data centers are killing people and making people sick in the areas they are in and you’re still using it, you’re part of the problem

Make it not slop, then. In what other business are you allowed to push an absolutely garbage product and expect glowing reviews and ass-kissing? (Politics doesn’t count.) Also MAYBE we have a strong reaction because you’re killing people, the planet, and creative careers for this trash?

avoid self loathing ✅ your art is special because YOU made it ✅ literally anything you create is better than AI✅

I find usually the “cringe”-sayers are miserable and just want everyone else to be miserable with them. I have leaned into my cringe!

Each year for new years, my town picks a local biz and the high school art students make a giant paper mache thing related to that business for the town to drop instead of a ball. We’ve dropped a giant burger, ice cream, fries, etc. this year was a dump truck - appropriate for this dump of a year.

Adding on: it is completely fair and okay to criticize things we love. Libby is a social good AND as such it needs to keep its eyes on what is actually good for society.

1/2 If you know and are friendly with enough writers in your general cohort you will likely know one or two or a few who are "famous" for whatever value of "famous" is relevant to others. It’s a classic, my kid loved it (and the movie). He’s now 10 and still strong with the horror. He also loves drawing monsters.

I don’t understand why people rail so hard against things like McDonald’s making an ai ad but don’t do anything about Netflix flooding their ads with gen ai, or Disney using ai for shorts, which are both arguably so much worse being content creators. (Not that MCD’s shouldn’t be railed against)
