I’m old enough to remember when there used to be a Congress that knows it’s a separate branch of government with actual responsibilities articulated by the Constitution.

In Opinion President Trump “is pushing our country toward an international crisis without valid reasons,” the editorial board writes after the U.S. attack on Venezuela was announced on Saturday. “If Mr. Trump wants to argue otherwise, the Constitution spells out what he must do: Go to Congress.”

Maduro is a brutal and oppressive dictator of Venezuela. Trump has no legitimate legal basis for military action against Venezuela under United States or international law. Both of those facts are simultaneously true.

The irony in all this is Trump wants to rule like Maduro…

I’d like to point out that the whole thing happened overnight while the US was asleep and EU was uninformed.

I know in this age of Trump what’s right & wrong no longer matters, & the law no longer matters. So I’m probably just shouting into the wind, but…what we just did in Venezuela is immoral & illegal. And it makes us no different than any other dictatorial regime that invades another sovereign nation.

5 yrs ago next Tuesday, an American president who lost an election but refused to accept the loss incited a violent attempt to overthrow the election. Instead of being treated like a pariah, that president was actually voted back into the White House, a much bigger condemnation of us than him.
