In most countries, paying for medicines accounts for more than half of out-of-pocket health spending. This means many people miss out on treatment because they can’t afford it. And you don’t have to take it from us.

People living in rural areas face more financial hardship when accessing health services than people living in urban areas. That’s not just another statistic.

Unaffordable health costs primarily affect people already living in poverty, forcing them to make impossible choices between health and other necessities, such as food or housing. According to the 2025 GMR report, out-of-pocket health costs push 19% of the world’s population further into poverty.

Only one more sleep until #UHCDay! Tomorrow we will come together to tell world leaders that #HealthCostsHurt and everyone should be able to access quality health care without risking poverty. Raise your voice tomorrow. Tell your story. And remember – change starts with you!
