It's going to be a ROUGH time for libraries for awhile. The biggest wholesale library book vendor, Baker & Taylor, is closing, and there's no way their competition can absorb their massive client base. So... expect delays on your new stuff while thousands of libraries scramble frantically. 😭

I'm rewatching Legend of Korra for the first time since it aired, and boy. This plot about government overreach and detaining people en masse for "associating" with "terrorist groups" really hits different in 2025.

Last night I was sitting on the patio of the local gay bar and a big loud truck drove by and threw an empty can at me (well, he threw it at *us*, the queers, but he hit me). Not exactly a hate crime, but it is a reminder that even in a city big enough to have a gay bar, some people still hate us.

I'm so ready for the midterms, this year has already lasted a thousand years and every day it's the new dumbest thing I've ever heard of.

I'm reading German news about their election today because I don't trust American sources to know shit about it, and I am VERY demoralized. Fucking ridiculous. Even if the CDU agreed to a red-black-green coalition, they wouldn't have a supermajority. Red-black is their only option and is BARELY 50%.

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

There's nothing I hate more than guns and I have never in my life wanted to own or shoot one, but I applied for my FOID card the other day because I live alone and am publicly tied to the queer community and it just... seemed prudent. I hate that I even had to think about that.

Yesterday, in between news of the CFPB being destroyed and the plan to permanently ban Palestinians from Gaza, I literally gave a shriek of laughter as "Also I'm pardoning Rod Blagojevich" slipped in there. We're just legalizing political corruption now and it's fucking WILD.

I really pushed for this to get through before the whole Department of Education gets nuked and everything gets even crazier for student load holders. But... I'm done. It's over. I am student debt free. (More than) 10 years of public service and regular payments, and I'm finally free.

Sorry I haven't really been on here lately, I can't stomach most social media at the moment. I'm kind of oscillating between depressed helplessness and a doubling down on local activism to combat that. I'm focusing on in-person stuff, but that's also pretty tiring.

Today's political headlines made me so unbearably exhausted that I actually don't know what to do. I'm so heartbroken for our community, and I feel a little helpless while we wait on the court battles. But we'll keep fighting the fight, and it won't last forever. But man, what a rough 4 years....
