New & emerging technologies must comply with intl human rights & humanitarian law. At #HRC60 the 🇪🇺 underlined that human judgment & accountability must always prevail - incl. in the military use of AI - to ensure responsible, rights-based innovation.

We strongly condemn any form of reprisals against HRDs & civil society organizations, incl those who cooperate with the UN. States must ensure their protection, offline & online. The number of reported acts of intimidation & reprisal remains disturbingly high. #HRC60

At #HRC60 we raised risks of human rights abuses in extractive industries such as mining. The number of Environmental & Land Human Rights Defenders killed every year is abhorrent. Many were defending Indigenous Peoples’ rights, as mining projects are often near or on their land.

At #HRC60 we reiterated the 🇪🇺 commitment to the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Their knowledge of ecosystems & sustainable use offers solutions to protect & restore our environment and mitigate the impacts of climate change.

Climate change impacts human rights. At #HRC60 we call to transition away from fossil fuels in a just, orderly & equitable way, rooted in human rights. The 🇪🇺 Green Deal is our roadmap to a climate-neutral economy by 2050, built on the principle of a just transition.

At #HRC60 we call for the release of all persons arbitrarily detained for exercising their rights. We commend the efforts of the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, which contributed to the release of 45 persons in 2024.

At #HRC60 the EU stressed that dignity, autonomy & equality in old age can only be achieved through a rights-based approach. 🇪🇺We remain committed to protecting older persons from discrimination & ensuring access to social protection for all.

Today at #HRC60 we discuss a worrying trend: the growing risk faced by environmental human rights defenders - threats, harassment & enforced disappearances. We firmly condemn these practices, whether committed by State or non-State actors. 🌍

At #HRC60 🇪🇺Ambassador Deike Potzel expressed the EU's condemnation of the airstrikes on 9 Sept in Doha & our solidarity w/ Qatar. We urge all parties to refrain from any actions that jeopardise mediation channels & regional stability. The EU is committed to the Two-State Solution.
