One Fine Morning is a delicately sketched film. It is cinema in pencil, rather than pen; a film of light attenuated mornings, understated conversations where decisions are never quite made, melodrama happening off screen.

Remembering Gene Krupa on the 117th anniversary of his birth. (He died in 1973). Krupa propelled himself to fame (literally!) with the opening drum solo on Benny Goodman's version of the Louis Prima-penned classic "Sing, Sing, Sing."

I watch very few films these days, far less than I’d like, but with a bit of an effort I’ve been on a bit of an old timey crimey spree. Thus far: Thief The Limey Point Blank The Long Goodbye Next: Le Samourai, maybe Le Cercle Rouge

It always catches my attention how Criss Cross has a lot of albums recorded at this time of the year. Turns out Gerry Teekens and Max Bolleman used to book a studio in New York every December so they ended up with a lot of albums recorded at Christmastime

Norwich Cathedral, just after Eucharist and when tourists are allowed to wander. Spotted the candle wreath being lowered (with the sound of a dockyard winch) and, after asking permission, caught the last candle of the morning service being blown out.
