Mourning the loss of Linda Williams. It’s hard to think of another scholar whose work helped define such a diverse range of subfields. For me, her 1981 essay “Film Body: An Implantation of Perversions” was a beacon showing how fundamental feminist analysis could be for early cinema. RIP

Shooting a striptease/rabid dance performance film this weekend and I am not only scared shitless, but can’t shake the feeling that I am investing time, labor, and money into something that no one else supports. I’ll be happy once it’s over.

anora allows liberals to feel enlightened for engaging with another fantastical tale of a "complex" sex worker character that is used and abused by men, has no concept of intimacy beyond sex, and has no real meaningful relationships in her life -- leading her to seek any comfort she can find.

anora is r/sexworkers fanfiction, from the brain of a slobbyist, come to life. one of my greatest frustrations with hollywood sex workers stories is that they rely on sensationalism -- like all hollywood stories. but because i know the reality, it's very difficult to suspend disbelief.

One day, just one day, there will be a film that engages a “s3x w0rker”— and not just a “[white] s3x w0rker” either. And in the event that this doesn’t even happen, it will not be like ‘Anora,’ which is literally a white “male” clients’ fantasy and ethnography of s3x w0rk/the worker.
